Quite often I hear from developers who either have never attended a tech conference or are quite resistant to the idea of going to one for the first time. I was among that group of people for quite some time. I simply didn't see much value in having to travel, organise tickets etc. But that changed when I attended my first conference (React-summit Berlin 23). Here are some of the reasons I like going to conferences:
Networking
At a tech conference, there are usually booths / stalls where companies (local and global) can tell you a little more about themselves and what they offer. This is a great way to interact with people and see if the vibe of the company gels with you. Quite often recruiters are also there so if you're looking for a change, going to a conference can be a great way to get a foot in the door. In addition to this, individual companies often host meet-ups and talks which can be a great way to learn more about a company and gain insights into how others are solving the problems you may be having
Getting out of your bubble
Quite often we can get immersed in our companies projects and ways of doing things that it blinds you to what's going on in the industry. Hearing from speakers from other companies and countries can be a great way of breaking this dogma
Motivation
Seeing what others are doing and building can be a great way to get out of a rut and get inspired again. Hearing from people's successes and failures can be a great way to get encouraged again to reach your goals
Swag
Last but not least - If you love stickers, t-shirts, company swag etc. conferences tend to be a great place to scoop them up :)
